NESCBWI 2010 Conference FAQ

When can I register?

Why did you switch to a new venue?

While we loved our time at the Crowne Plaza in Nashua, NH, we ran into some space limits. Because of fire codes, we had to cap the 2009 conference at 400 attendees. Conference SIG Nominations Open

At this year’s NESCBWI conference, we will be setting aside time for people to participate in Special Interest Groups, or SIGs. The SIGs should be a fun way to share information, do some networking, and get involved in some interesting discussions.

Reinventing Myself

Until now, I have avoided blogs and twitter and facebook et al, but I just attended the New York Conference and am motivated. I now have a blog and am planning to attend the spring NE conference. My caretaker role ended last March when my husband died and it has taken me this long to start again. I can now look ahead.

We shouldn’t panic and let fear ruin our mindsets to think clearly and realize what we need to do to survive and surpass a disease. Also, our hospitals need to be prepared for anything. They need to be fully equipped on any disease that might resurface anytime, anywhere. Hospitals should have their own tools to… Continue

Editing Glitch

The long, drawn out editing process can do strange things to your mind, especially when you’re on your fourth, fifth or sixth pass through your manuscript. There’s so much to look for. Grammatical errors, places that drag, plot holes and glitches, passive voice, mistakes in continuity, misplaced modifiers, sentences ending with prepositions, too many be-verbs, adverbs, adjectives, ugly people. You also have to comb through your work, looking for crutch phrases or overused words.

The Future of Children's Books

Wired magazine is hosting a contest for images representing the future of children's books.

This month’s assignment: Imagine the future of children’s books. Kids might still be satisfied with 2-D picture books about Mother Goose, but it’s hard to imagine that the offspring of the Kindle generation will settle for such antiquated media. Wha
