Is it good or bad to post chapters of stories on the web?

I have seen a few different websites like Textnovel and BookRix. These websites allow you to post chapters and entire stories on the web for others to read and give opinions on. But I am wondering if this is bad if you also have plans to eventually send it out to publishers? Most of these sites say the work is still your own when you post it, but will this hurt a deal with publishers even if you remove it from the posts when you send it out into the professional world?
I am just not sure what is considered acceptable in the publishing.
Any thoughts or knowledge on this would be greatly appreciated
