oh, and your style is simply beautiful and seems very classic.... :-)

Kristina, I'm no expert but I think this shows something about you as an artist. The more experienced folks may correct me, but I have similar representational pieces in my portfolio (which I am STILL pulling together.. sigh!). I met a group of illustrators at a networking session, who assured me that even though it is better to have the bulk of my portfolio with CBI works, it is good to have some pieces which represent your artistic style... you never know what ADs are looking for...

Kristina,
Your colors are so rich and jewellike and the details are beautiful. I like the idea of adding the parent/child scene, too. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing for the portfolio!

I love the colors-- the image is gorgeous! maybe you could do another illustration incorporating these elements but placing them in some sort of narrative? Ie A parent and child making tomato sauce? And then have both images in your portfolio...

oh yes, my question (sorry)...even though it's not truely CBI, should I include in in my portfolio? Thanks,

Hey everybody! What a great group of folks we have! Summer is over, and school is back again, but before I put my nose back to the grindstone for homework I just finished a piece just for me (WHAT?)...even though it's not truely Children's Book Illustration, I thought doing a simple still life would be a good exercise - just to get the brain working again (I take classes in CBI during the year) ...our garden's heirloom tomatoes and onions..I'm calling it "Sauce". Not a great photo of the drawing, but you get the idea...colored pencil.

Hi Jim,
I think your palette choices work really well and the concept is fun! Just a minor thing - the way you have the shadows, the left side of the barn looks like it needs a shadow. I really like how the farmer is carting an egg away in a wheelbarrow! Hmmm, I wonder how they'll milk the cows!?
