I've always been fascinated by the natural world, but I didn't start writing about science and nature until a college professor suggested it. She though it might be the career of my dreams, and, boy, was she right!
I feel lucky to spend my time exploring nature, talking to scientists, and then sharing all the incredible things I learn with young readers. So far I've written more than 100 books, but I still have plenty of ideas.
When I'm not writing, visiting schools, or sharing ideas about teaching science through literature with educators, I'm usually volunteering for SCBWI, hiking with my husband, or hanging out with my six nieces and nephews.
