About

My artistic talents were discovered at the tender age of 5, in Allentown, PA when I was challenged by a TV commercial to "draw this turtle." Soon after, I had my very first art show (thanks to my mom and dad's refrigerator).

Since then, I've moved north, along with my husband, our two brilliant daughters, and our loopy dog Lucy, and we've made Nashua, New Hampshire our home! It is here that I spend my time working as an illustrator; and I can't think of any job I'd rather be doing! But be forewarned, if anyone has the gumption to challenge me to draw a turtle again, I'll be ready and waiting!!

Update:
This weekend at the 2009 NESCBWI Conference I was awarded the 2009 Ann Barrows Illustrator's Scholarship! I'm so excited, and am looking forward to next year's conference already!

Kristina, I'm no expert but I think this shows something about you as an artist. The more experienced folks may correct me, but I have similar representational pieces in my portfolio (which I am STILL pulling together.. sigh!). I met a group of il...

Kristina, Your colors are so rich and jewellike and the details are beautiful. I like the idea of adding the parent/child scene, too. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing for the portfolio! -Jenn D.

I love the colors-- the image is gorgeous! maybe you could do another illustration incorporating these elements but placing them in some sort of narrative? Ie A parent and child making tomato sauce? And then have both images in your portfolio...

oh yes, my question (sorry)...even though it's not truely CBI, should I include in in my portfolio? Thanks, T

Thank you for your kind comment. Your work is really beautiful. It's taking me some time to figure out how to use this social networking site... and I am a web designer by day! Maybe I just need another cup of coffee...

Hi Michelle,
Congratulations on receiving the Ann Barrow Scholarship. Ann and I were friends and belonged to the Freelance Artists Network in SE Mass. She was the most wonderful person and is sadly missed by her friends.

Oh... Michelle... just checked out your website. I love your illustrations. What a beautiful, free, loose, and energetic style! Lovely!

I have to warm back into drawing. Haven't done any for a while... but have done a lot of writing stories. Now I am reviewing what makes a good children's illustrated story from my classroom teacher reading books and by reviewing stages of reading development at these ed publishers:
http://www.rcowen.com/
and
http://www.charlesbridge.com/client/client_pages/submissions.cfm
I'm starting with those two. Will branch out from there.

In the next several weeks I'll try and post an illustration if I can figure it out. :) Thanks for including me in the group!

Hi Michelle,
I am hitting all the wrong buttons, it seems. But I am interested in joining if you are accepting new members. I have an art background and I have written a number of children's poems and stories which I want to illustrate myself. I also enjoy taking my own photographs for illustration research and photojournalism projects. I don't have a website or blog, but that is an upcoming interest, as well. That's me in a quick nutshell. Thank you very much. Nancy Morrison

Hey Michelle,
About Luna Rising... I think they folded last year or got gobbled up by a bigger group. Check this http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6472082.html?q=luna+rising
