I'm expanding on the tutorial on the topic of
adding images to MyNESCBWI because the Cover Art Gallery now has some added exposure as a widget on each page of the
New England SCBWI website.
If you are a member of SCBWI, a participant in MyNESCBWI, and the author and/or illustrator of a book for children or young adults, you can have your cover art included in the gallery and as part of the slideshow on the New England SCBWI site. Just follow the instructions in the images tutorial, making sure to tag your image as a "cover" so it can be easily found. I will try to add new covers to the widget every few weeks or so. If I ever forget to check for new covers for a while, feel free to give me a gentle reminder.
When putting cover art on any website, including social networks, blogs, or your own professional site, it's a good idea to first obtain permission from the copyright holder, which will usually be the publisher of your book. Your editor or in-house publicity person can often obtain this permission for you or point you to the right person to ask.
For promotional purposes, permission will usually be given as a matter of course. I'm not familiar with any cases where the author or illustrator of a book has been refused permission to include cover art on a website, or where a publisher has demanded a remedy after the fact, but the safest and most professional course is always to ask.
Images you post will automatically appear on your My Page and other participants will be able to comment on them, so it's all interactive and fun. I'm reserving the right to exclude books from the gallery if they're written primarily for adult readers or are otherwise inappropriate to this site, but they may still appear on your My Page.
Enjoy!
